ABOUT US

Fire protection since 1987

Prevent Systems researches, develops and distributes its own patented low-pressure water mist technology.

More than 35 years of experience in research and development enables us to deliver innovative, patented fire protection technology to the rapidly growing residential market, as well as for applications in ordinary hazard classes. This includes apartment buildings, care institutions, hospitals, hotels, office buildings, schools, parking car garages and heritage buildings, including churches.

In addition, we have solutions that secure aircraft in hangars.

The history of our innovative solutions goes back to 1987. At that time, Bjørn R. Hansen started the development of water mist nozzles for fire protection.

The systems were originally developed for the maritime market and are found aboard cruise ships, ferries and other vessels worldwide. When Prevent Systems AS was founded in 2007, the focus shifted to the land-based market.

“Our innovative solutions have made us a leader in the research, development and distribution of automatic low-pressure water mist fire suppression systems.”

Prevent Systems is the first company to have passed the test requirements of the Nordic and British standards for water mist for Residential occupancies, NS-INSTA 900-3 and BS 8458, and for buildings in ordinary hazard class 1, BS 8489-7. These test protocols are the basis for the European test protocols in the EN 14972 series - EN 14972-7 and EN 14972-17.

We are also the first company with LPCB certified water mist nozzles, "listed" on RedBookLive.com.

Selection of suppression system

The choice between water mist or sprinklers will depend on water access and pressure, the size of the building, the floor-plans and use of areas, fire loads, to name a few. What should also weigh heavily, especially for building owners and managers, is maintenance and life cycle costs.

There are many factors that come into play when choosing the best fire suppression system for a project, but the most important is probably the price. By price we mean the offer the contractor or building owner receives from the installer, fully installed and commissioned for operation.

A water mist system will normally have higher material costs due to the requirement for stainless and corrosion-free components, but can still be cost-effective when considering installation costs. A report from Grønn VVS (12-2024) refers to an office building of approx. 3400 m², where the difference between conventional sprinkler and low-pressure water mist was a weight difference of 8 500 kilos. It takes longer to transport in, unload, transport into the building, hoist and secure an extra 8.5 tonnes.

By referring to the water mist standard in the price request to the contractor, we are confident that the purchase price will be competitive in most projects. The larger the project, the more advantageous water mist is, but it requires that you ask for a price for a water mist system so that it is not priced as an option or add-on after an installer has been awarded the job with a priced sprinkler system. If so, water mist will never be cheaper.

We are not claiming that water mist is always the best option, but it should always be considered.

As a manufacturer of our own patented low-pressure water mist nozzles, and an active member of Norwegian and European expert groups for firefighting (SN/K 014 and CEN TC 191, WG10), we have not only actively contributed to writing standards, test protocols and guidelines, we have also fire- and component-tested our systems to them.

We have the expertise to guide you!
